Overview
A well-established Minnesota-based specialty contractor is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join its team in the southwest Twin Cities metro. This is a unique opportunity for a licensed engineer who wants to apply their structural expertise to some of the country's most complex and interesting infrastructure restoration projects.
Rather than focusing exclusively on traditional commercial building design, this role supports challenging projects involving bridges, dams, locks, industrial structures, temporary support systems, scaffolding, containment structures, and other critical infrastructure throughout the United States.
The company has been in business for more than 50 years and has built a national reputation for solving difficult engineering and construction challenges. The previous Structural Engineer spent 16 years with the organization before retiring, creating an excellent opportunity for someone seeking long-term stability, technical variety, and the ability to make a meaningful impact.
What You'll Do
- Develop structural designs, calculations, drawings, and engineered solutions supporting complex construction and infrastructure restoration projects.
- Design and analyze structural steel, concrete, temporary structures, scaffolding, containment systems, work platforms, and other specialized systems.
- Support bridge, dam, lock, industrial, and heavy infrastructure projects across the country.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, construction leadership, field teams, clients, and outside engineering partners.
- Review shop drawings, technical specifications, structural calculations, and project documentation.
- Provide engineering support during project planning and active construction.
- Conduct occasional project site visits for inspections, pre-planning, and technical support.
- Help solve unique structural challenges that often require creative, practical engineering solutions.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; or ability to obtain Minnesota licensure.
- Strong structural design and engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software such as RISA or similar platforms.
- Experience with AutoCAD or comparable CAD software.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both engineering and construction professionals.
Prior bridge, dam, or heavy civil infrastructure experience is not required. The company is open to accomplished Structural Engineers from commercial buildings, industrial facilities, infrastructure, or other structural design environments who are interested in learning a highly specialized niche.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of $130,000–$160,000, depending on experience.
- Fully paid employee health insurance.
- Subsidized family health coverage.
- Profit sharing and bonus opportunities.
- 401(k).
- PTO.
- Hybrid flexibility, typically one remote day per week with the possibility of additional flexibility for the right candidate.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to move beyond repetitive structural design work and apply your engineering expertise to projects that are different every time. You'll work on nationally significant infrastructure, collaborate directly with construction teams, and see your engineering solutions put into action in the field.
For the right engineer, this offers the combination of technical challenge, long-term stability, autonomy, excellent compensation, and career variety that can be difficult to find in a traditional consulting environment.
