This is a unique opportunity for a Staff Backend Engineer to play a foundational role in architecting and building core backend systems powering a modern software platform from the ground up. You’ll work on complex technical challenges involving platform unification, identity, shared services, and scalable distributed systems—all while helping shape engineering standards and technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Platform Development

  • Design and build scalable backend systems powering a next-generation software platform
  • Architect solutions for platform-level challenges including authentication, identity, shared services, and data architecture across multiple products
  • Drive backend architecture decisions with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and long-term platform health
  • Build APIs, integrations, and distributed systems supporting rapid product evolution

Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence

  • Help establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical direction across teams
  • Lead technical initiatives and influence architectural decisions across the platform
  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture centered around ownership, speed, adaptability, and technical excellence
  • Balance rapid product delivery with long-term sustainability and performance

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, Frontend, Mobile, AI, and Data teams to rapidly develop and release new capabilities
  • Contribute to technical planning and execution in a highly iterative, fast-paced environment
  • Help navigate ambiguity and evolving priorities as products scale and mature

AI-Enabled Development & Innovation

  • Leverage modern AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve speed, experimentation, and product development efficiency
  • Contribute to intelligent, automation-focused platform initiatives and technical experimentation

Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Strong experience building scalable distributed systems and APIs
  • Deep understanding of backend architecture, integrations, platform scalability, and data modeling
  • Proven experience leading technical initiatives and influencing architecture decisions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to adapt quickly and operate effectively in evolving product environments

Preferred

  • Experience in startup, high-growth, or greenfield product environments
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows and modern development tooling
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with a passion for solving platform-level challenges

Helpful Technical Experience

Experience with some combination of:

  • Backend technologies such as Rust, Python, Node.js, or Go
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Relational and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  • API architecture, distributed systems, and modern software infrastructure
