Senior Manufacturing Engineer
We are seeking a hands-on and forward-thinking Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design and development of custom fabricated products while supporting manufacturing workflows and cross-functional initiatives. This role combines product design, CAD modeling, Laser/Punch programming, ERP data management, and customer collaboration to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, practical manufacturing knowledge, and a proactive approach to supporting both internal teams and external stakeholders. In addition to technical responsibilities, this position serves as a mentor to the Junior Manufacturing Engineer, helping develop skills, provide technical guidance, and uphold engineering standards—without direct supervisory duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Design Ownership: Lead the design of custom products using SolidWorks and Boost, ensuring manufacturability, accuracy, and adherence to internal standards.
- CAD Modeling (SolidWorks): Create accurate 3D models and detailed production drawings including flat patterns, bend lines, weldments, and assembly views.
- Laser/Punch Programming (Trumpf): Generate router toolpaths and nesting programs using Boost software to support efficient material use and shop floor readiness.
- Revision Control & Item Creation (NetSuite): Create and maintain accurate version history, BOM updates, and engineering documentation while also creating and managing assemblies, components, and items within the NetSuite ERP system.
- Customer-Facing Consultation: Participate in technical discussions with customers to understand needs, validate feasibility, and refine design solutions.
- Rapid Feasibility & Prototyping: Quickly evaluate concepts for manufacturability and iterate designs to meet functionality and cost targets.
- Sales & Quote Support: Provide design expertise and documentation to support quoting, scope validation, and sales enablement.
- Cross-Functional Documentation: Prepare complete engineering packages for seamless handoff to manufacturing, purchasing, and operations teams.
- Mentorship: Serve as a technical mentor to the Junior Manufacturing Engineer—reviewing work, sharing best practices, and supporting skill development.
- Process & Standards Development: Support the development of design templates, SOPs, and engineering documentation standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline design workflows, improve production quality, and reduce lead times.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in product design and fabrication
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks, including sheet metal features
- Experience using Boost (or similar CAM/nesting tools) for Laser/Punch router programming on Trumpf machine
- Familiarity with NetSuite or equivalent ERP system for BOM and revision control
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as bending, welding, cutting, and finishing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including customer-facing discussions
- Proven ability to guide and support less-experienced engineers in a collaborative, non-supervisory role
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- Experience with DFM/DFA and lean design principles
- Experience in sales/estimating support or pre-sales technical consultation
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, or related tools for visual documentation
- Experience working in a fast-paced fabrication or job-shop environment
- Familiarity with robotics, automation, or machine integration to support design for manufacturing and process efficiency
