Overview

A well-established specialty infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to join its growing Hawaii operation on the island of O'ahu.

This is not a typical ground-up commercial construction role. The company performs highly specialized public works and infrastructure restoration projects involving bridges, airports, harbors, piers, military facilities, fuel tanks, historic structures, structural repairs, industrial coatings, and other technically challenging scopes throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

The Hawaii operation functions much like an entrepreneurial, independently operated business unit backed by the resources and stability of a national contractor with more than 50 years of history. With a growing backlog and field workforce expected to expand significantly, the team is seeking a hands-on Project Manager who wants greater ownership, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly impact the growth and profitability of the business.

What You'll Do

  • Manage multiple construction projects simultaneously from contract award through final closeout.
  • Oversee projects ranging from smaller specialty scopes to multimillion-dollar public infrastructure contracts.
  • Review plans, specifications, estimates, scopes of work, and contract requirements.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, financial forecasts, schedules, and look-ahead plans.
  • Coordinate with public owners, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field supervision, and internal support teams.
  • Manage change orders, procurement, project documentation, submittals, and owner notifications.
  • Monitor field progress and work closely with hands-on Superintendents and field crews.
  • Identify risks, solve problems, and help drive projects toward successful and profitable completion.
  • Assist with estimating and preconstruction activities as needed.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and project partners.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of construction project management or project engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage construction projects from award through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of project budgets, schedules, contracts, change orders, procurement, documentation, and financial performance.
  • Experience in public works, government, heavy civil, infrastructure, commercial construction, industrial construction, general building, or specialty contracting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Self-directed, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively without a large corporate support structure.

A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred but not required for candidates with strong, relevant construction experience. A PE license is not required.

Specific bridge, dam, painting, or coatings experience is also not required. The company has deep technical expertise internally and can teach its specialized niche to an accomplished construction professional who knows how to manage projects successfully.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $120,000–$150,000+, depending on experience.

Schedule & Travel

The position is approximately 80% office-based and 20% field-based. Most projects are located on O'ahu, with occasional travel to the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, and other Hawaiian Islands. Inter-island travel is generally limited to day trips or occasional overnight stays rather than extended travel assignments.
