Overview

We are partnering with an innovative product development company that designs and manufactures some of the industry's most advanced connected sports training equipment.

About the Role

This is not a traditional mechanical engineering role where designs are handed off to someone else to build. Instead, you'll own the complete mechanical development of a flagship product line—from early concept and CAD design through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and continuous product improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Own the complete mechanical design and development of a flagship product line
  • Design welded structures, machined components, assemblies, and production-ready mechanical systems
  • Create detailed SolidWorks models, engineering drawings, and GD&T documentation
  • Select materials, components, and manufacturing processes to optimize performance and manufacturability
  • Build and modify physical prototypes
  • Weld, fabricate, machine, and assemble prototype components
  • Design and build custom test fixtures
  • Perform structural, functional, and durability testing
  • Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement design improvements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supplier partners throughout product development
  • Support design-for-manufacturing initiatives
  • Assist with prototype builds, production launches, and ongoing product improvements
  • Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously
  • Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and project status
  • Partner with cross-functional teams throughout product development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of mechanical product development experience

Required Skills

  • Expert-level SolidWorks experience
  • Experience creating production engineering drawings utilizing GD&T
  • Experience designing welded structures, machined components, and assemblies
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, fabrication, and sheet metal
  • Experience developing and testing physical prototypes
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with sporting goods or fitness equipment
  • Experience with durable consumer products
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing
  • Experience with overseas manufacturing partners
  • Hands-on machining or fabrication
  • Experience with product lifecycle management
