Overview

We are partnering with a large, nationally recognized lifestyle and hospitality organization to add an experienced Interior Designer to its in-house Architecture & Design team.

This team is responsible for the design and development of a growing portfolio of sophisticated, amenity-rich destinations across the country. Projects include both ground-up development and major renovations, giving designers the opportunity to work on spaces from early concepts and programming through construction and final delivery.

Unlike a traditional architecture or design firm where projects are handed off after completion, this is an owner-side, in-house design environment. You'll have the opportunity to develop spaces for a brand with a consistent national design language, see those concepts become physical environments, learn from their real-world performance, and continuously improve future designs.

The organization has an active development pipeline, creating consistent opportunities to work on new projects while helping evolve the prototypes and design standards used across its national portfolio.

The Opportunity

As an Interior Designer, you'll translate architectural and interior design concepts into functional, engaging, and highly polished environments.

This is not purely an aesthetics-focused position. You'll think about how interior environments influence the overall customer experience, functionality, traffic flow, engagement, and commercial performance.

You'll work closely with architects, engineers, purchasing teams, construction partners, and other internal stakeholders while taking ownership of interior design elements ranging from space planning and finish selections to millwork, furniture, lighting coordination, signage, and construction documentation.

What You'll Be Doing

Interior Design & Space Planning

  • Develop interior design concepts and plans for new construction and renovation projects
  • Assist with programming and space-planning analysis
  • Translate design concepts into functional, cohesive interior environments
  • Develop furniture layouts and evaluate circulation, functionality, and ergonomic requirements
  • Integrate interior design concepts with the broader architectural design of each project

Design Development & Documentation

  • Prepare design plans, elevations, details, and contract documents
  • Develop reflected ceiling plans, millwork designs, furniture layouts, finish plans, elevations, and schedules
  • Create and coordinate detailed interior design documentation within Revit
  • Work with architectural and engineering teams to ensure interiors are fully integrated with the overall building design
  • Conduct field verification as needed

Materials, Finishes & FF&E

  • Lead the selection and coordination of colors, finishes, materials, furniture, accessories, and signage
  • Research products and materials based on aesthetics, performance, durability, availability, and cost
  • Develop specifications and coordinate selections with internal purchasing resources
  • Help ensure interior environments consistently reflect established design standards while continuing to evolve the brand

Prototype & Design Standards

  • Maintain and improve prototype interior designs and specifications
  • Incorporate lessons learned, industry best practices, and new materials into future projects
  • Coordinate with architecture and purchasing teams as updated prototype designs are implemented
  • Help create repeatable design solutions that can scale across a growing national portfolio

Construction & Project Collaboration

  • Participate in site observations throughout construction
  • Review field conditions and help address interior design issues during project execution
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, construction teams, purchasing, and other internal partners
  • Help ensure design intent is carried successfully from concept through construction
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other members of the design team

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an Interior Designer who combines strong creative instincts with the technical ability to turn concepts into buildable, well-documented commercial environments.

The ideal candidate understands the architectural design process and is comfortable working across the full spectrum of interior design—from programming and space planning through materials, FF&E, construction documentation, and field observation.

This is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys seeing their work become a physical space and wants to move beyond working on isolated client projects to helping shape a large, evolving national portfolio.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of professional interior design experience
  • Experience with commercial interior design, including space planning and furniture specification
  • Strong understanding of the architectural design and construction process
  • Advanced Revit skills
  • Experience producing interior construction documents, plans, elevations, details, and schedules
  • Strong knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture, and interior specifications
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Experience mentoring or providing guidance to other team members
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Currently holds or is working toward CID certification

Preferred

  • Experience with Procore
  • Experience with Bluebeam and SharePoint
  • Strong programming and planning capabilities
  • Knowledge of interior design principles, materials, furnishings, and specifications
  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling tools, including SketchUp
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • LEED AP accreditation
  • Experience with prototype, rollout, hospitality, retail, fitness, mixed-use, or other amenity-rich commercial environments

Location & Work Environment

This position is based in the Twin Cities metro and offers a flexible hybrid work environment.

The Interior Designer will collaborate closely with an in-house team of architects, engineers, designers, construction professionals, and other project partners. Some travel and field observation may be required as projects progress through construction.
