Overview

We are partnering with an established multidisciplinary engineering and design firm to hire an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems Studies and Arc Flash analysis for an immediate contract opportunity.

This position will support an active portfolio of industrial projects and is expected to begin as a 6–9 month contract, with the first six months guaranteed. There is also meaningful potential for the position to convert to a permanent role based on performance and ongoing business needs.

The role can be performed remotely from most U.S. states, with the option to work from offices in Minneapolis or New Orleans.

This is primarily an electrical engineering analysis position rather than a traditional electrical design role. We're specifically looking for someone who already has hands-on experience completing power system and arc flash studies and can contribute quickly with limited ramp-up.

The Opportunity

You'll join an Electrical Engineering group supporting complex industrial facilities across industries such as agribusiness, food and feed processing, chemicals, manufacturing, renewable energy, and other process-intensive environments.

The team's analytical work includes evaluation of both new and existing electrical power systems, with projects involving arc flash risk assessments, short circuit analysis, load flow, protective device coordination, harmonics, and power factor correction.

The immediate priority is adding an engineer who can independently contribute to Arc Flash and Power System Studies using ETAP and/or SKM while supporting existing client engagements and an active pipeline of upcoming work.

For someone interested in longer-term stability, this also provides an opportunity to get to know the organization through the initial contract period with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent engineering position.

What You'll Be Doing

Power Systems Analysis

  • Perform Arc Flash Studies and Arc Flash Risk Assessments
  • Conduct power system studies for new and existing electrical systems
  • Perform short circuit analysis
  • Complete protective device coordination studies
  • Support load flow analysis
  • Evaluate electrical system performance and identify potential issues
  • Support harmonic analysis and power factor correction studies as required
  • Develop calculations and supporting technical documentation

Engineering & Project Support

  • Apply electrical engineering fundamentals, applicable codes, and industry standards to project work
  • Analyze electrical systems and develop technically sound recommendations
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations and study documentation
  • Coordinate with other electrical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Review project information for quality, completeness, and technical coordination
  • Support both existing client engagements and upcoming project work

Client & Field Support

  • Participate in client communication depending on experience and project needs
  • Clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide occasional construction or field support when required
  • Participate in limited site observations and prepare supporting documentation
  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines and office locations

What We're Looking For

This search is specifically focused on an Electrical Engineer who has already performed Arc Flash and Power System Studies professionally.

We're not looking for a general electrical designer who has been exposed to power systems and would like to learn studies. The successful candidate should be comfortable stepping into an active workload and contributing relatively quickly.

The ideal experience range is approximately 4–8 years, although we're open to candidates outside that range when their technical background aligns particularly well.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of professional electrical engineering experience
  • Direct, hands-on experience performing Arc Flash Studies
  • Direct experience performing Power System Studies
  • Professional experience with ETAP and/or SKM
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems and engineering fundamentals
  • Experience developing engineering calculations and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work independently within a remote or distributed engineering environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Approximately 4–8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Experience with both ETAP and SKM
  • PE license or progress toward professional licensure
  • Experience with industrial electrical power systems
  • Background supporting manufacturing, agribusiness, food processing, chemicals, renewable energy, or other industrial facilities
  • Experience with short circuit, device coordination, load flow, harmonics, or power factor studies
  • Revit familiarity
  • Experience communicating directly with engineering clients
  • Multidisciplinary consulting engineering experience

Contract Details & Compensation

  • Initial Contract: 6–9 months
  • Guaranteed Duration: 6 months
  • Target Pay Rate: Approximately $60–$70/hour, depending on experience
  • Flexibility may be available for particularly strong candidates with highly relevant power systems expertise
  • Potential contract-to-hire opportunity based on performance and future business needs
  • Travel expenses reimbursed when project travel is required

For candidates who ultimately transition into a permanent position, the anticipated base salary range is approximately $90,000–$120,000, with some flexibility for particularly strong experience.

Why This Opportunity

  • Immediate technical impact: Step directly into meaningful Arc Flash and Power Systems Study work
  • Remote flexibility: Work remotely from most locations throughout the United States
  • Contract stability: Six months of the initial engagement is guaranteed, with an anticipated 6–9 month overall duration
  • Potential contract-to-hire: Strong performers may have an opportunity to transition into a permanent position
  • Interesting industrial systems: Analyze electrical infrastructure supporting complex industrial and process facilities
  • Technical variety: Gain exposure to arc flash, short circuit, coordination, load flow, harmonics, and other power system analyses
  • Multidisciplinary environment: Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, process, and other engineering disciplines
  • Limited travel: Approximately 10% or less, with travel potentially even lower for contract employees
  • Established project pipeline: Join an engineering organization with immediate workload as well as upcoming project demand
  • Award-winning workplace: Opportunity to potentially convert into a long-term position with an established, nationally recognized workplace

Location & Travel

This position can be based:

  • Remotely within the United States
  • Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • New Orleans, Louisiana

Due to current employment requirements, candidates cannot be based in California, Washington, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, or Alaska.

Travel is expected to be approximately 10% or less and may be minimal for the contract employee. Any required business travel will be reimbursed.

The selected candidate should expect to attend initial orientation in Minneapolis during their first week.
