Overview
Our client is a growing healthcare consulting organization that partners with physicians across the country to launch, transition, and grow membership-based medicine practices. The company helps physicians transform the way they operate their practices, providing comprehensive support throughout the evaluation, transition, launch, and ongoing growth process.
As the organization invests heavily in expanding its national sales team, they are looking to add a Director of Business Development to lead new business development efforts throughout the Northeast.
This is an exciting opportunity for a polished, physician-facing healthcare sales professional who enjoys hunting for new business, building trusted relationships, and managing complex, consultative sales cycles. The ideal candidate will be someone who can proactively identify and engage physicians, understand the business challenges facing their practices, and guide them through a significant transformation in how they deliver care and operate their business.
What You'll Do
- Own business development efforts across the Northeast territory, primarily covering Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.
- Proactively identify and develop relationships with qualified physicians and medical practices.
- Generate new business through outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, industry relationships, and other creative business development strategies.
- Build a self-generated pipeline rather than relying solely on inbound opportunities.
- Conduct consultative meetings with physicians to understand their business objectives, challenges, and long-term goals.
- Guide prospective physician practices through the full evaluation and sales process, from initial conversation through signed commitment.
- Present demographic, market, and business analyses to help physicians evaluate potential practice transformation opportunities.
- Develop trusted relationships with physicians, practice partners, staff, spouses, and other key decision influencers.
- Collaborate closely with marketing, client services, and executive leadership to advance opportunities through the sales cycle.
- Deliver polished, compelling presentations and effectively communicate complex business concepts.
- Consistently achieve monthly activity metrics and annual sales targets.
- Maintain accurate pipeline and prospect information within the CRM.
- Travel throughout the assigned territory to meet face-to-face with physicians and other key stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of successful sales and/or business development experience.
- 3+ years of experience selling directly to physicians or physician practices strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to generate net-new business and build pipeline through proactive outbound prospecting.
- A true hunter mentality with the ability to create opportunities rather than wait for inbound leads.
- Experience managing longer, consultative sales cycles.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to quickly establish credibility and trust with physicians and other sophisticated decision-makers.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Proven ability to manage a territory, maintain a healthy pipeline, and consistently meet or exceed sales targets.
- Self-motivated, strategic, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50%, depending on candidate location and territory activity.
- Bachelor's degree in business, communications, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
