We are hiring a Global Supplier Development Engineer at our Global Innovation Center in Golden Valley, MN.  The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) will bring strategic component suppliers from prototype to volume production. In this highly visible role, the candidate will act as a key technical leader for components of products and evaluate production capability, supplier qualification, process and component qualification, technical roadmaps and reliability plans within New Product Development (NPD). The successful candidate will identify areas of quality improvement for suppliers, develop methods and tools to monitor the improvement and will work with several cross functional teams in NPD, Engineering, Operations, and Global Supply to conceive and implement programs of strategic importance to product quality roadmaps.  The scope of this role also encompasses strategic initiatives and activities to support continuous improvement and lean methodologies.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively engage with assigned suppliers in NPD Early Supplier Involvement initiatives and coordinate cross functional team activities around defined actions enabling aligned specifications, supplier validation and delivered quality.
  • Drive a structured approach, with suppliers, during the NPD phases utilizing tools such as capability assessments, process mapping, PFMEA, and part qualification - Material Design Review and First Articles
  • Facilitate supplier drawing design reviews encompassing supplier design simulation, testing, and validation activities to ensure delivered quality at both the prototype and product launch phase
  • Partners with design engineering team to review component drawing including tolerance, GD&T and identify areas of improvement and influence improvements
  • Initiates and authors deviations, coordinates and owns Engineering Change Order (ECO) process task for the release of production parts, and manages and resolves quality notifications
  • Participates in the development of project plans, schedules, and metrics.  Tracks and reports progress to leadership.
  • Actively identify areas of risk with mitigation plans to ensure project execution and improved performance
  • Lead projects as requested pertaining to process development, fixture development, and/or equipment implementation leading to cost reductions and speed improvements
  • Communicate and enforce supplier manual and Performance expectations
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with open communication to key internal work partners and suppliers
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing Principles to the Supply Chain / Suppliers including Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Transformation Plan, Root Cause/ Counter Measure (RCCM) and Project Charter (A3)
  • Own and lead continuous improvement activities and strategic initiatives

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor level degree in Engineering. Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years component and quality experience with focus on electrical components, harness, batteries, and chargers, among others.
  • Industry leadership in the area of high quality, reliability, and availability components and products
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, experience in statistical methods of data analysis including DOE and SPC
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, requirements, and specifications
  • Experience in defining, executing, and continuously improving component qualification/certification/audit specifications and criteria
  • MS Office, SAP, or related ERP experience
